To celebrate my sisters birthday this year we decided to meet up half way. She lives in Perth and I live in Toronto, so Oahu, Hawaii was the perfect location for a getaway!
Oahu also happens to be home to Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa. As a travel agent who specializes in Disney vacations, a visit to this resort was a must do for me. Walking up to Aulani, I was so excited. Before I left, I had watched the videos, looked at pictures and read up on the resort, but nothing compares to seeing it in person. We arrived into the Maka'ala lobby and were instantly impressed by the unique design of this meeting place. We later learned that the resort was built with traditional Hawaiian architecture in mind.
After walking through the gorgeous lobby, Aulani opens up into a breathtaking outdoor space complete with three pools, a lazy river, water play area, waterslides and of course the beautiful Aulani Cove beach.
Aulani, offers the same magic you will find on any Disney Vacation. You can enjoy many classic Disney treats, trade pins with cast members, search for hidden Mickeys, watch Disney movies under the stars, and so much more! We enjoyed a fun photo opportunity with Mickey and Minnie before my resort tour.
On the tour I had a chance to explore the standard ocean-view room, a two bedroom garden-view villa, and the spectacular three bedroom ocean-view villa. The rooms at Aulani are spacious, beautifully decorated, and filled with Disney magic!
When we finished with the room tours, we had a chance to visit the spa. After being greeted with a glass of cold pineapple water, we were told to choose a rock from the basket. Each rock has a different word on it, for example mine said Listen. As we walked the halls of the spa, we arrived into a circular room where guests were asked to place their stone in a little pool of water and observe how they changed the shadows on the wall. This is done each time you enter the spa to remind you to be mindful. I was in awe of the experience and could tell Laniwai was a world class spa.
Aulani is the perfect place to spend the day relaxing on the beach. The Aulani cove is protected from rough waters allowing for swimming, even when many beaches around Oahu were closed. If you get hungry while on the beach there is a snack bar were you can enjoy some Disney treats, drinks and light snacks.
A visit to Aulani offers the perfect balance of a relaxing beach holiday with all the magic of Disney!

Walt Disney World isn't just for the kids, there is so much for adults to enjoy too. The World Showcase at Epcot is one of the best ways to spend a night out. Imagine visiting eleven different countries in one evening. You can have dinner in Italy, dessert in France, then head over to England for pint at the pub. Some people even attempt to drink around the world!
While drinking eleven drinks in one day might not be your thing, you may like to sample one or two of the most popular adult beverages available at The World Showcase. If you're staying on-site, plan to visit Epcot during evening extra magic hours to enjoy this attraction after dark.

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of being a vendor at the Yorkdale Holiday Inn - Fall MRKT in Toronto. I had a wonderful time talking Disney with the shoppers and connecting with the vendors!

My husband and I love Anthony Bourdain's show, The Layover. It's all about making the most out of a layover in various cities around the world. Here is my families' version of The Layover in L.A. for 16 hours!
When United Airlines emailed me with a schedule change that gave us a 16 hour layover in LAX on New Years Eve, my first thought was NO! We were flying to Toronto from Australia with our young family and I didn't want to extend the trip any longer (if you've ever flown 14 hours with 2 small children, you know what I mean.) After feeling slightly depressed, it hit me! We could make this layover the best day ever by spending it at the happiest place on earth, Disneyland!
I started to google LAX layovers + Disneyland and I couldn't find much. I did find a trip advisor review that said it couldn't be done...LOL! Being a bit of a rebel traveller, I decided that I was going to make it happen. Here's how we did it...
How to Visit Disneyland on a Layover
Note: Visiting Disneyland on a layover, isn't ideal. In order to truly experience everything Disneyland has to offer you would want to stay for much longer then 16 hours.
